About VinyliQ

Hi fellow vinyl lover! 😁

Welcome to my vinyl and audio playground on the web!

My name’s Ed Lansink, and I’m the author and founder here on VinyliQ.

I’m an 80s/90s kid who grew up with cassettes and CDs primarily, but I knew vinyl records as a young child. I used to listen to my dad’s vinyl collection in the attic on his old-but-still-functioning Philips turntable. I’m a curious tinkerer by nature, so any type of technology sparks an innate need to explore.

There was something about those shiny black discs that was special. Fascinated with how they worked, I listened to The Beatles, The Beach Boys, CCR, The Kinks, and a bunch more 60s/70s classical albums over and over again.

After a few decades of Walkmans, Discmans, Minidisc players, WinAmp, Napster, Grooveshark, and Spotify, I somehow ended up in my parents’ attic again. Rediscovering all those albums and singles, something reignited that fascination.

One Hi-Fi setup, three turntables, many vinyl purchases, and one depleted bank account later, I’m a self-confessed vinyl addict.

(I say “self-confessed,” but it’s usually “semi-outed by my better half.”)

Ed Lansink - author and editor at VinyliQ.

Why VinyliQ?

I created VinyliQ for a few reasons:

  1. I quickly became the “vinyl guy” among friends and family and started getting asked for tips. I figured why not create a resource that will be helpful to other budding vinyl collectors as well?
  2. To share what I learn as a vinyl collector, as I venture into tinkering with more equipment, and accessories and discover more vinyl and music along the way
  3. To engage with YOU and hear from you and your experiences. How? Leave a comment (on any of my articles, or on this page if you just want to say hi), or hit me up here.

Cool OK, but why’s it called VinyliQ?

Big disclaimer: I don’t consider myself a vinyl “expert”, nor do I pretend to be one. I learn by researching thoroughly, through trial and error, and publishing what I’ve learned for others to benefit from. The “IQ” in VinyliQ is intended to convey becoming smarter about vinyl and audio equipment, not to suggest I know it all. 😉

Affiliate disclaimer

You’ll come across a bunch of so-called product affiliate links across VinyliQ. That means that if you click through on those links and make a purchase, I get a small token for referring you at zero cost to you.

That means I earn a little money with this site, which goes to:

  • Hosting, running, and promoting VinyliQ to reach a bigger community of collectors
  • My growing addiction to vinyl. I promise you nothing that I earn from VinyliQ will be spent on utility bills, food, or other life necessities.

Nevertheless: I’m genuine about my recommendations and usually use what I recommend myself.

Do you have any questions?

You can leave a comment on any page on my site or contact me here.

Thank you!

Finally, thank you for your support, comments, messages, and questions. I’m grateful for all your feedback – positive as well as constructive!

Happy spinning!

-Ed
